New registrations of leisure vehicles continue to fall in December due to supply problems

New registrations of leisure vehicles continued to fall in December. Due to faltering global supply chains and a lack of components and raw materials, there were delays in the production and delivery of motor caravans and caravans. At 4,241 vehicles, 33.2 percent fewer units were newly registered than in the same month last year. In terms of the calendar year, new registrations were slightly down on the record previous year (minus 1.0 percent). A total of 106,138 leisure vehicles have been newly registered in 2021. This is only the second time in the history of the caravanning industry that the 100,000 mark for new registrations has been exceeded in a single calendar year.

Caravan registrations continue to decline

Delivery problems were particularly noticeable in the caravan segment. 623 caravans were registered for the first time in Germany in December. That is 29.4 percent fewer than in December 2020. Looking at 2021 as a whole, new caravan registrations are down 15.2 percent. 24,718 units have been newly registered in 2021.

New motor caravan registrations also down in December

Last month, new motor caravan registrations were down significantly (minus 27.4 percent) compared to the same month last year. Nevertheless, a strong result was achieved with 3,618 newly registered vehicles. It represents a doubling compared to December 2019. Between January and December 2021, new registrations actually increased by 4.3 percent compared to the best figure from the previous year. In total, 81,420 motor caravans have been put on the market for the first time in 2021.
