Despite continued high demand for all vehicle types, the current new registration figures paint a divided picture: between January and September, 56,901 motor caravans and 21,110 caravans were newly registered compared to the previous year, but the total number of new registrations is still above pre-Corona levels. Cross-industry problems such as faltering supply chains and a lack of personnel continued to have a significant impact on the production and delivery of leisure vehicles in the second half of the year.
New caravan registrations down from previous year’s level
Compared to the same period last year, new caravan registrations rose by 4.4 percent in September. Overall, the sector is below the level of 2021 with 21,110 newly registered vehicles (- 2.7 percent). Caravan production has recovered from the previous year’s minus and, like exports, is recording a significant increase.
Vehicle chassis for motor caravans still in short supply
New registrations of motor caravans fell by 17.8 percent to 4,083 units in the month of September compared to the previous year. A total of 56,901 motor caravans were newly registered in the first three quarters. Although this means that the sector has to report a drop of 17 percent, it still clearly exceeds the figures from pre-Corona years. Manufacturers continue to face a shortage of vehicle chassis in particular.
