New registrations of leisure vehicles continued to fall in May. Due to faltering supply chains worldwide, missing components as well as raw materials, there were delays in the production and delivery of motor caravans and caravans. At 11,946 vehicles, 17.5 percent fewer units were newly registered than in the same month last year. In terms of the calendar year, new registrations are down on the record previous year (minus 7.5 percent). Since the beginning of the year, a total of 46,070 leisure vehicles have been newly registered.
Caravan registrations still on the rise
Some manufacturers offering both caravans and motor caravans are increasingly focusing on caravans in production to meet existing demand. 3,194 caravans were registered in Germany for the first time in May. This is 9.3 percent more than in May 2021. Looking at 2021 as a whole, new caravan registrations are up 9 percent. 11,636 units have been newly registered so far in 2022.
New motor caravan registrations down at a high level
Compared to last year’s exceptionally successful May, new motor caravan registrations were down 24.2 percent. However, 8,752 units registered for the first time is a better May result than in 2019 and previous years. In the first five months of this year, 34,434 motor caravans were registered for the first time – 12 percent fewer than in the same period last year in 2021. However, new motor caravan registrations are still at a higher level at this point in the year than in 2020.
